POSITION TITLE: Payroll Specialist II
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Payroll Coordinator
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12-month year. Support Staff Salary Scale Level 13
STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES: To assist with processing payroll for district employees and provide direct support for the District's benefits compliance and associated reporting.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES: (essential functions)
- Assist with processing bi-weekly payroll and issuing payroll checks.
- Update new employee payroll fields into payroll system
- Set employees up for direct deposit
- Assist with Time Clock Plus time and attendance system tracking
- Assist new Admin Assistants in use of TCP
- Ability to maintain accurate and confidential employee payroll files.
- Ensures all voluntary deductions from payroll are coded and deducted according to district policies and procedures.
- Pays federal and state taxes.
- Prepares bank deposits and electronic funds transfers.
- Reconcile various payroll reports.
- Works directly with Human Resources on the District’s approved employee benefit package
- Ensures compliance with PPACA requirements (July 1, 2014)
- Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:
- Knowledge of payroll processing techniques and practices.
- Knowledge of Federal and State payroll regulations and tax laws.
- Knowledge of office equipment and computer hardware and software applications.
- Knowledge of computerized records systems.
- Skill in processing payroll.
- Skill in making mathematical computations.
- Skill in maintaining accurate reports and forms.
- Skill in operating office equipment and computer hardware and software.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others.
- Knowledge of benefits including health care, vision, dental, life insurance, short term disability, Arizona State Retirement, tax-sheltered annuities, flexible spending accounts.
- Knowledge of PPACA regulations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of payroll, benefits coordination or bookkeeping experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Tyler Technology School ERP Pro Software experience preferred.
- TimeClock Plus experience preferred.
