Position: Business Accountant - Grants
Classification: 12-Month Classified Exempt - ($55.000 - $66,000) Salary Based on Experience
Reports to: Director of Business Services
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES: Assigned to Business Services and reports directly to the Director of Business Services. The Staff Accountants will work closely with the Director of Business Services and Director of Finance to develop and monitor budgets, run reports and analyze financials, maintain the General Ledger, assist with monthly balancing and and Grants Management.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES: (Essential Functions)
- Support MUSD's Vision, Mission and Goals.
- Work with administrators and departments to develop the organization's grant budget.
- Review managers' budget proposals for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with laws and other regulations.
- Monitor organizational spending to ensure that it is within budget and inform departments and administration of the status and availability of funds.
- Performs budget administration, budget versus spending analysis, processes budget revisions, provides statistical information, budget data, status reports, other related reports, and support for the Business Department as required.
- Prepares and distributes monthly, quarterly and yearly reports on special budgets for the district. Audits and reconciles assigned accounts and prepares accounting entries.
- Support function to provide financial analysis, development of Excel worksheets, and process budget amendment transactions through the databases to various levels within the district.
- Provides a monthly review of Revenue and Expenses for the district-wide budget as well as district-wide accounts.
- Reconciles, provides analysis and processes necessary journal and/or budget entries in relation to the District's lapse, savings and loss of salary dollars using the various systems.
- Approves payments for expenditures within the District agency funds for compliance and adequate availability of funds. Maintains computerized budget records for the District.
- Maintains proper and necessary accounting records for verification and procedures. Responsible for following proper audit procedures and preparing schedules for external and internal auditors.
- Provides training on finances, budget processes, and procedures.
- Act as a liaison with committees and special projects.
- Provide financial assistance and oversight on grants.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Knowledge of principles and practices of basic accounting and purchasing.
- Knowledge of record management principles.
- Knowledge of inventory control procedures.
- Knowledge of office equipment and computer hardware and software applications.
- Preferred knowledge of School ERP Pro Infinite Visions software. (or similar)
- Preferred knowledge of AZ Dept. of Ed.’s Grant Management application. (or similar)
- Skill in operating a computer for routine data entry operations.
- Skill in making mathematical calculations and preparing reports.
- Skill in maintaining records and files.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Able to perform the following physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation: critical sensory requirements include general vision, corrected to 20/20, hear or listen in the normal range (corrected) and speak and give directions clearly.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Associates’ degree required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Progressively responsible and verifiable experience in accounting to include budget management. Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. Excellent customer service, problem solving, and organizational skills required.
REQUIRED LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
