Title Food Service Equipment Maintenance Specialist
Description Position Description: MAINTENANCE - Food Service Equipment Technician
Classification: Non-Exempt Level 17 (Based onexperience/qualifications) 12-Month Work Calendar
Reports to: Director of Facilities and Operations and Director of Food Services & Maintenace Coordinator.
Statement of General Responsibilities:
Inspect equipment, diagnose issues, execute repair, and perform preventative maintenance on a
wide variety of kitchen and refrigeration equipment such as walk-in freezers, industrial-sized
steam cookers, refrigerators, ice machines, washers, ovens, dryers, dishwashers and water
coolers, as required throughout the district and provide for the safe condition and operation of
all food service (kitchen) systems in our district facilities.
Essential Functions and Principal Duties:
- Installation of new food service equipment and systems when required; including but not
- limited to wire and connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, and humidity controls according to wiring schematics.
- Maintain Freon dispensing records to meet federal requirements.
- Create and maintain a periodic preventive maintenance schedule and perform all preventive maintenance and cleaning on all kitchen equipment throughout the district and district-owned work tools as needed.
- Receive, prioritize and complete work orders in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate records on material used and labor required.
- Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
- Collaborate with co-workers, district administration and staff to effectively provide solutions to maintenance problems.
- Respond to emergency calls as needed, which may require after hour calls.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Knowledge of commercial kitchen equipment repairs, maintenance, and installationtechniques.
- Knowledge in the operation of electrical control systems.
- Outstanding soldering and blazing skills, applying oxygen/propane.
- Strong ability to read and comprehend blueprints, diagrams, schematics, written reference material and to follow manuals on operations and installations.
- Exceptional ability to work independently without direct supervision and collaboratively with peers.
- Strong keyboard and basic computer skills and aptitude for navigating software used in district operations.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve problems.
- Strong knowledge of plumbing repair, basic electrical, fundamentals of commercial refrigeration and proper use of hand and power tools.
Job Requirements: (Minimum Qualifications)
- High School Diploma or GED Required
- Universal EPA Certification for refrigerants
- Minimun of 2 years experiencein low temp applications
- Valid Arizona Driver’s License Required
Working Environment:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following
physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and
balancing; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger
dexterity. Generally, the job requires 10% sitting, 20% walking, and 70% standing. The job is
performed under with some temperature extremes and some hazardous conditions.
