Position Description: GROUNDSKEEPER
Classification: Non-Exempt Classified Compensation Plan Level 1 Range - $11.03 (Based on experience/qualifications)
Purpose Statement:
To maintain grounds, fields and other outside areas of the District.
Principal Duties:
- Mows grass, trims trees, operates a weed eater and performs other grounds keeping activities.
- Irrigates all sites and maintains/repairs sprinkler systems.
- Assists with spraying by administering herbicides and insecticides
- Assists with fertilization of fields and turf areas
- Inspects playground equipment and fences. Makes minor repairs when required.
- Operates hand tools and other light and heavy equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
- Knowledge of grounds keeping practices and techniques.
- Knowledge of general safety rules and techniques.
- Knowledge of tools and equipment used in grounds keeping activities.
- Knowledge of and skill to administer herbicides and insecticides
- Skill in operating hand tools, mowers and other light and heavy equipment.
- Skill in performing basic repair and maintenance techniques and procedures.
- Skill in responding to work orders, troubleshooting and diagnosing mechanical failures.
- Skill in communicating orally and in writing.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others.
Job Requirements: (Minimum Qualifications)
- High School Diploma or GED Required
- 2 years of experience (Required)
- Herbicide/Insecticide Spray Licensure (Required or able to acquire within 6-months)
Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 20% walking, and 70% standing. The job is performed under with some temperature extremes and some hazardous conditions.
